Pulihora gujju( Tamarind rice mix)

Ingredients::

Tamarind:: 1/2 kg

Peanuts::1/4 kg

Red chillies ::100 grams(25 red chillies)

Chana daal::125 grams

Urad daal:: 125 grams

Cumin seeds:: 25 grams

Mustard seeds::50 grams

Turmeric::1 tablespoon

Asafoetida( hing)::1 teaspoon

Curry leaves:: 25 leaves

Green chillies::10

Ginger::1/2 inch

Oil::3 tablespoons

Salt to taste ( 2/3 cups)

Procedure::

Soak tamarind in warm water for one hour.Grind turmeric, salt and the tamarind along with water into a smooth paste.Cut curry leaves and ginger into small pieces.Slit the green chillies .Now in a frying pan heat 3 tablespoon of oil and add peanuts and let them fry for a minute , then add chana daal, urad daal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing .Once they fry add curry leaves , ginger and green

chillies ,let them fry for few minutes.Now add the grinded tamarind paste and cook it without lid until the paste leaves oil on the sides.

Let it cool and store in a bottle , lasts in the fridge for 2 months.

To make the pulihora add 2 tablespoons of the paste to 1/2 kg rice and mix well and enjoy.
